Celine Dion 'Too Desolate' To Attend Brother's Funeral, Days After Paying Final Farewell To Her Husband

Celine Dion At Husband's Funeral

Grieving Celine Dion opted out of attending her brother Daniel's funeral yesterday, just two days after paying a final farewell at his memorial service.
The My Heart Will Go On singer has had a devastating few weeks, as she has had to cope with the loss of her beloved husband René Angélil as well as the death of her brother, who died from cancer last week at the age of 59.

Celine attended a memorial service for Daniel on Saturday, a day after her husband's funeral, but declined to attend the final service at St-Simon-et-Jude parish in Charlemagne, Québec, where the family was raised, because she could not continue two more days of public mourning, Entertainment Tonight reports.

In his last days, Celine’s brother Daniel had been battling throat, brain and tongue cancer.
Daniel’s obituary reportedly read: “His last days were in the wonderful care of the doctors and personnel at Maison Adhémar-Dion, a palliative care center in Terrebonne Québec.
“For those wishing to send flowers, a donation to that organization would be very much appreciated."

It also read: “Battling cancer for a few years, it's in the uttermost discretion and surrounded by his family that Daniel Dion, 59, died today, January 16. He was the eighth child of Thérèse and Adhémar Dion, brother of Céline.'"

On Friday, Celine gripped her five-year-old twin boys by the hand as she said a final goodbye to her husband.
In emotional scenes, the singer led hundreds of mourners at a public funeral for her late partner of 21 years at the same church where they married in 1994.
The couple share twins Eddy and Nelson and son Rene-Charles, 14, who told the congregation: "Dad, I promise you here that we are all going to live up to your standards."
Rene, who acted as a mentor and manager to Celine, passed away last Thursday after a long battle with throat cancer.
