Beyonce has just released a new music video for
"Formation," her first solo since 2014.
The video features a cameo from Queen Bey's
four-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, but the music and explicit lyrics are
decidedly more hardcore than we typically see from 'Yonce.
Set in New Orleans, the vid pays tribute to the Creole city,
particularly its black culture, and features the Bootylicious singer in a
variety of locales throughout its disparate neighborhoods.
One scene features Bey on the hood of a partially-submerged
police car in a re-creation of the floods that took place following Hurricane
Katrina.
The only oddity of this portrayal is how she croons about
rocking her couture "Givenchy dress," although most of the folks
affected by Katrina were living in poverty.
Not to worry, Beyonce still slays, as the lyrics point out
repeatedly, and there's plenty of killer dance moves and
thigh-baring bodysuits we have come to expect from the queen.
As one YouTube user put it, "I FEEL SO LUCKY FOR BEING
ALIVE AT THE SAME TIME AS BEYONCE."
